SUMMARY:
THE INDIGO CHILD concept was fi rst popularised by the book, The Indigo Child, written by the husband and wife team Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. Carroll also portrays himself as a channeller for Kryon, a spiritual entity who predicted the coming of the Indigo Children. *1 INDIGO is a fi lm about loneliness, redemption, and the healing powers and grace of the new generation of Indigo (psychic and gifted) children being born into the world. *2
DD URING a fl ight delay in Chicago in the late nineties, I spent my time browsing the airport bookstore near my terminal.
When a young woman next to me picked up a copy of Conversations with God, the fi rst book in the popular series by Neale Donald Walsch, I had to ask, Are you familiar with that book?
A friend told me I should read it, she answered.
She then told me she was a Christian.
But its not about Christianity, I warned her. It may sound good and use a lot of Christian words, but its message turns Gods truth upside down. She thanked me and put the book back.
My thoughts drifted back to a Christian conference some years earlier where a group of leaders had concluded that the New Age movement had peaked.
No need for more books on that topic, they said, for the faddish seductions of the beautiful side of evil would soon fade away. *3
They couldnt have been further from the truth. While those early blooms of occult enticements might have peaked in interest among Christians, the seeds of deception sown during the sixties and seventies had already taken root in well-cultivated soil across America.
Since then, the poisonous fruit disseminated through the Beatles, Napoleon Hill, Shirley MacLaine, Marianne Williamson, Hindu gurus and countless other spiritual advocates of New Age spirituality and the power of positive thinking have been sprouting everywhere in schools, churches, movie theatres, television, books, the news media and the internet.
Syncretism, mysticism and subjective self made spirituality have become the norm.
So it was no surprise to learn in early January this year that the award-winning movie Indigo would be released at select theatres and churches in all 50 states and 40 countries on January 29. *4
Starring the famed Neale Donald Walsch who placed his occult Conversations with God into the public consciousness, it would surely accelerate Americas paradigm shift toward a global spirituality incompatible with our God and His Word.
Wondering whether to see the movie or not, I searched the internet in mid-January.
The website, Metagifted Education Resource Organization, gave an interesting description of the Indigo personality:
Being Indigo is not a disorder!
Its a Spiritual Evolution that manifests physically and appears to be a Cultural Revolution.
This is the new Aquarian energy.... Indigo Children are the current generation being born today and most of those who are 8 years old or younger....
The name itself indicates the Life Colour they carry in their auras and is indicative of the Third Eye Chakra, which represents intuition and psychic ability.
These are the children who are often rebellious to authority, nonconformist, extremely emotional and sometimes physically sensitive or fragile, highly talented or academically gifted and often metaphysically gifted as well, usually intuitive, very often labelled ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), either very empathic and compassionate OR very cold and callous, and are wise beyond their years....
Their nonconformity to systems and to discipline... will help them accomplish big goals such as changing the educational system....
The Indigo Children are the ones who have come to raise the vibration of our planet! These are the primary ones who will bring us the enlightenment to ascend....
About 85% or higher of children born in 92 or later, 90% born in 94 or after and 95% or more born now are Indigo Children! *5
Then I perused the website for the Indigo movie.
Even two weeks before the opening date, theatres in my state were sold out, but seats were still available in alternative churches such as Unity, Unitarian, Congregational and Christian Science.
After much prayer, I bought a ticket from a local Unity church and arrived in time to browse its bookstore before the movie opened.
The fi rst book I noticed was The Purpose Driven Life, prominently displayed near the front door.
But I saw neither Bibles nor other familiar Christian literature.
There were plenty of metaphysical books, including Mr Walschs Conversations with God.
Other shelves carried crystals, symbols, and books by Thomas Merton and other, more obviously Buddhist gurus.
Here mysticism and meditation from the East and West all mingled together.
Glancing through some of the books, I kept seeing traditional words and phrases such as redemption, faith, righteousness, holiness, transformation, abundant life.... But all the words had been given new meaning. Their occult context twisted everything into spiritual lies and half-truths. Just as the serpent did to Eve back in the garden, I thought.
A small Unity publication on Transformation caught my eye, and I pondered its interesting interpretation of Romans 12:2.
While the biblical translation tells us, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, the Unity version changes the meaning: To not be conformed to the world is to have the courage to trust our own intuition, even if it conforms not to the teachings of this worlds authorities.
It means to put faith in our inner knowing of truth more than to succumb to the voice of authority. *6
Interesting, I thought.
Thats the opposite of what God tells us in the Bible! In fact, Proverbs 3:5 reminds me to Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. *7 This emphasis on personal intuition and rejection of outside authorities was well illustrated by the movie that soon followed. The Indigo child was the granddaughter of Ray, the character played by Mr Walsch. Arrogant and self-confi dent, the precocious Grace followed her feelings and conversed with the invisible spirit world that both fi lled and surrounded her. Mental telepathy, divination, necromancy (communication with the dead) and the healing touch came naturally to this Indigo child, for she had intuitively tapped into a universal force a seductive reservoir of occult wisdom, strength and prophetic voices.
According to the movie script and to the promotional message from the producers, all who were touched by Graces life including her grandfather were transformed:
The dramatic core of the fi lm is the relationship that develops between a man whose life and family have dissolved due to a fateful mistake and his 10-year-old granddaughter with whom he goes on the run to protect her from a would-be kidnapper. Along the way, he discovers the power of his granddaughters gifts which forever alter the lives of everyone she encounters. *7
Grace was aloof, wilful, sassy, and disrespectful. The list sounds familiar, doesnt it? The profi le is typical of television-trained children from todays permissive homes.
But in the context of this fi ctional movie, those contentious attitudes made Grace a valuable change agent within her dysfunctional family. And since the script was written to affi rm her condescending ways, I was not surprised by the laughter and cheers from the audience. The fact that contemporary children share many of Graces characteristics only strengthens its metaphysical message: send the energy to everyone.
While some of us grieve the real-world consequences of this cultural revolution, a rising chorus of voices demands acceptance of todays paradigm shift.
Their positive spin inspires visions of an evolved humanity that is bursting out of the old shackles of Christian morality, traditional guidelines and parental restraints.
The new civilization would be led by children and youth driven by the spiritual visions and universal energies that are steering the world toward occult transformation.
Neale Donald Walschs part in the production and promotion of the award-winning movie *7 helps clarify the source of this deception.
He freely admits that he receives his inspired messages through the occult practice of automatic writing.
In the Introduction to Conversations with God, Book 2, he tells us, On a blank sheet of paper, I would merely write a question... and no sooner was the question written than the answer would form in my head, as if Someone were whispering in my ear. I was taking dictation! *8 [Emphasis added]
Tragically, his popular series has effectively imbedded a new, twisted understanding of God into millions of minds, including those who call themselves Christian.
And he is only one among thousands of authors, artists and leaders who feed distorted truths and outright lies to gullible seekers.
No wonder the public awareness of God has shifted from its biblical foundation to a more feeling-based, pluralistic, and positive position. For example, in Conversations with God, Book 1, Mr Walsch invites his God to describe himself.
Ponder the answer of his god:
To some of you I am pure energy. To some, the ultimate feeling, which you call love.... I AM. I am the wind which rustles your hair. I am the sun which warms your body. I am the rain which dances on your face.... I am the beginning of your fi rst thought....
Whatever works for you, whatever makes it happen whatever ritual, ceremony, demonstration, meditation, thought, song, word, or action it takes for you to reconnect do this. Do this in remembrance of Me. *9
This pantheistic god has no moral boundaries.
Anything goes. Like the devilish creed of Aleister Crowley (Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law), *10 Walschs demonic guide wants to draw humanity to himself through freely chosen feel-good experiences. Conversations with God, Book 2 makes the point well:
Listen to your feelings. Follow your feelings. Honour your feelings.... Your feelings will never get you into trouble, because your feelings are your truth. *11
You have repressed sex, even as you have repressed life, rather than fully Self expressing with abandon and joy. You have shamed sex, even as you have shamed life.... *12
So many people want to say that I am against gay sexuality or the acting out of it. Yet I make no judgment on this or any other choice you make. *13
Sin, shame, guilt and judgment are obsolete. The god of the New Age a force that brings bondage and hate shuns anything that might lead to the cross and true freedom:
Hitler went to heaven for these reasons: There is no hell... providing the chance for correction, for evolution. The mistakes Hitler made did no harm or damage to those whose deaths he caused. Those souls were released from their earthly bondage, like butterfl ies emerging from a cocoon.
Hitler was created by you. He arose out of your Collective Consciousness ... The consciousness of separation, segregation, superiority of we versus they, of us and them is what creates the Hitler Experience.
The consciousness consciousness of Divine Brotherhood, of unity, of Oneness, of ours, not just yours/mine, is what creates the Christ experience. *14

Later, Mr Walsch asks this question: How then should we educate our young? Heres his answer from God:
First, treat them as spirits... entering a physical body....
Be careful of what you put into their memory storage units....
Teach concepts, not subjects....
From the earliest primers to your more sophisticated readers, all tales, stories, and subject matter would revolve around the core concepts ...
Your children would be introduced to the concepts, injected into the concepts, immersed into the concepts. *15
Read the writings of the man called Rudolph Steiner. Explore the methods of the Waldorf School, which he developed. *16
...the human relationship, the bonding and the love which is shared in such a paradigm is just as important as any facts the teacher may impart. *17
The core concepts are Awareness, Honesty, and Responsibility. That may sound good, but keep in mind that each word has been redefi ned to fi t the New Age context of spiritual unity and systems thinking the notion that everything is interconnected through some sort of universal energy. [See Character Training for Global Citizenship]
Since traditional moral standards have been purged, theres reason for concern about sin or shame, so honesty has little to do with confessing a wrong. It has everything to do with authenticity self-awareness, self-disclosure and self-actualisation. As in the dialectic process, you are responsible for putting your true thoughts and feelings on the dialectic table so that the group might grow together in awareness and unity.
It fi ts the vision for Indigo Children. Free from the traditional disciplines and boundaries, they claim self-determination as their right and follow no authorities but their own inner drive.
In light of the supposed interconnectedness between human spirits and the universal force, it all fi ts together. As the Indigo movie and its producers (James Twyman, Neale Donald Walsch, and Stephen Simon) claim, this god is guiding the evolution of humanity toward world peace and universal oneness under a socialist/spiritual system.
And, like most New Age illusions and practices, this ideology brings measurable success in the millions.
According to critic Lorie Anderson, Twyman sells books and an Internet course based on the Psychic Children.
He holds pricey Psychic Children conferences, camps, and fairs, charging about $300 for adults for the main conference. He offers an Internet course on telekinetic spoon bending.
He purportedly conversed with Jesus (Jeshua) who revealed to Twyman through a Divine Partnership the secrets of Heaven and Earth ...
He doesnt always make a distinction in his writings between his purported mystical interactions and actual, in-the-fl esh interactions.
When confronted with suspected and admitted misrepresentations, he conveys that he would rather we focus on the truth of his messages than the truth of his experiences and this seems to satisfy many people....
Twyman wrote reassuringly:
as I have been telling those who inquire, Emissary of Light is not an organization, and I am not a guru. ... This is not about me. It is about peace.18 Its not Gods kind of peace! As enticing counterfeits develop, they will surely widen divisions among those who call themselves by the name of Christ.
While the world calls for unity at any costs, His people cant conform to its ways, visions, hopes or dreams. Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth, warned Jesus. I did not come to bring peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34).
On the other hand, our Lord promised peace, strength and eternal hope to all who know, trust and follow Him. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
But those who heed counterfeit promises and seek spiritual favours from occult sources become blind to His grace. Deceptions will multiply, but discernment and victory will follow those whose hearts are set on Him. So, beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ (Colossians 2:8).
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things.. . (2 Timothy 4:3-5).

3 This conclusion was shared at a Christian Writers Conference which I attended in the early nineties, soon after my books Your Child and the New Age and Under the Spell of Mother Earth had been published. Both books were selling briskly, but others who shared my concerns would have little opportunity to share their messages through Christian publishers. Apparently they found little interest among Christians for such warnings.
