Confusion will abound both inside and outside of the church. Nevertheless "Those who know their God shall be strong and TAKE ACTION" (Daniel 11:32). This is a time to prophetically point to the Lord's way as opposed to man's way. Such demands that WE, His people, INQUIRE of the Lord. The instruction of Psalms 122:6 to "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee" brings this into focus in two regards. Firstly a nuance of the Hebrew "sha'al" or "shael" rendered "PRAY" actually means to INQUIRE. It is the word that is frequently applied to the Old Testament saints in their seeking the mind of God in time of conflict, trouble and disaster, eg Judges 20:27; 1 Samuel 22:10; 23:2,4; 2 Samuel 2:1; 5:19, 23; 21:1. We need to do this. There are many fingers that are being pointed, from the extreme conspiratorial camp on the one hand to the equally extreme jingoistic (warmongering) camp on the other. At this stage we at CWM simply call for PRAYER let us INQUIRE of the Lord so that we can with confidence and accuracy point the way ahead, as long as the Lord tarries. Secondly Psalm 122:6 promises true prosperity to those who love the Lord and His city. What consolation in times of disaster! [ TOP ] Appeared in Issue 14 September 2001 |
