Dear CWM,
I have heard of Neale D Walsch. 
He is a Roman Catholic and a fairly young man around Mid 20s early thirties. The book he wrote Conversations with God is about an experience he had and so it was "god " who spoke to him. When I read about in the News Papers a few years ago ,my impression then was that he had a spirit guide.I think he has written a follow up book. The Roman Catholic Church is treating it as Ridgy Dige (genuine). They had a RCC Cardinal investigate his so called experience and was given the green light by ROME. There is a bit of mysticism involved in what I read.

I believe who ever gets involved in this will be listening to doctrines of
DEMONS. His books were available in most major secular bookshops.
