By BRETT BIGG PART 6: -- another in a series
SUMMARY: One has to question how Kenneth Copeland can reconcile the teachings of his numerous publications and sermons [on healing -Ed] with this notification.
- Copeland says that he "injured his back"; there is no claim to being under attack by Satan, or that Satan is trying to put "sickness, disease or infirmity" in his body.
-
Why doesn't he "refuse it in the name of Jesus"?
- Gloria says to "make the decision to live in divine health
decide to be well" and Kenneth has preached this himself; having made statements about not just having faith for healing but having faith for [divine] health.
-
If God's will, regarding healing, is that we should "go on about our business", how is it that "many hours of flying would be too much" - especially for this "giant" of the faith industry, this "anointed" self-confessed "prophet"?
-
Didn't we read, above, that "anywhere, at any time, the Spirit of God is always ready to heal"?
- Copeland's, "we started believing and acting like the healed and haven't stopped since", must be a thing of the past?
-
'Do as I say, not as I do' must be the motto for today.
-
It all makes a mockery of Copeland's prophecy, on New Year's Eve (31 December 2003), that, "The year 2004 will be known as the Year of Fullness.
-
By the close of 2004, all callings will come into fullness
That's fullness of the gifts of the Spirit in manifestation.
-
Thank God we are there!"
Health is one part of life that we tend to take for granted, until we feel unwell. In discussing health I would like to make the distinction between health and fitness: many an office-worker may say that they are healthy, but if they are required to do a little bit of physical exertion they feel like they're "dying". Health is the body's ability to function normally, whereas fitness is the body's ability to perform during physical exertion.
One of the doctrines that the Word-Faith movement concentrates on is Health and Healing. Its proponents, such as Kenneth Copeland, pride themselves on the "anointing of God" and their dogmatic stance on the "gift of healing" being for today.
Though I agree that God's anointing and gifts have not been done away with - I wish to point out that just because God can heal us, it does NOT mean that He MUST heal us.
God is the Sovereign Lord of the Universe - His will stands, be it in a general sense or a specific sense for each one of us.
In his book
"You Are Healed", Kenneth Copeland says,
It does not satisfy God to see sickness and disease on believers today. He was satisfied when that sickness and disease was laid on Jesus. Many people think God wants them to stay sick, so He can get glory out of their travail; but that kind of thinking is a lie straight from the pit of hell! To put sickness on you after it was put on Jesus would be a miscarriage of justice! …you can know beyond doubt that God's will is for every person in Jesus Christ to be healed and made well. He paid the price, so we could receive it.
Anytime a believer has a problem receiving healing, he usually suffers from ignorance of God's Word, ignorance of his rights and privileges in Jesus Christ.
You Are Healed, Kenneth Copeland, p8,9
Jesus died for sin and, at the same time, did away with all the effects of sin. When sin entered the world, it brought with it the forces of destruction: death, sickness, poverty, fear. The price Jesus paid at Calvary was the full price, covering every area of human life: spiritual, mental, physical, financial and social. Our redemption is complete.
You Are Healed, Kenneth Copeland, p14
…Because you believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted His sacrifice as your own, you are Abraham's seed and heir to the promise. Praise God, that promise includes physical healing. Satan has no right to put any sickness, disease or infirmity on your body. You are a child of God, a joint-heir with Jesus and a citizen in the kingdom of God. You have a covenant with Almighty God, and one of your covenant rights is the right to a healthy body.
You Are Healed, Kenneth Copeland, p17
Some time ago, God dealt with me on the subject of healing and how important it is for believers to live free from sickness and disease. His words to me then were so strong that they echoed in my spirit for weeks. He said, "I want My people well!"
God wants every believer to be healed and whole:
You Are Healed, Kenneth Copeland, p19
Likewise, in Gloria Copeland's
"God's Will for Your Healing", she says,
Make the decision to live in divine health in the same way that you make the decision to accept Jesus as Saviour. Decide to be well!
God's Will for Your Healing, Gloria Copeland, p36
Resist the temptation to be sick just as you resist the temptation to sin. That may sound too simple, but it works because the Word says, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
Satan is the source of sickness. When Satan attempts to put sickness on your body, refuse it in the name of Jesus.
God's Will for Your Healing, Gloria Copeland, p36
One thing you know: when you believe that you receive, healing begins to take place in your body. God could not keep His covenant without healing you if you have met the conditions of the covenant…
If you will continually feed on God's Word, you will come to the place where you simply go to 1 Peter 2:24, enforce the Word that you were healed, thank God for His Word of healing and go on about your business.
God's Will for Your Healing, Gloria Copeland, p36, 37
To summarise, let's include Kenneth's Foreward in his and Gloria's
"Healing Promises",
When Gloria and I first heard this scripture taught years ago, we believed in healing. We even believed God's will was for people to be healed. Yet sometimes we got healed and sometimes we didn't.
But let me tell you, the day we found out Jesus had already done the work and healing belonged to us - that we were no longer the sick trying to get healed - we started believing and acting like the healed and haven't stopped since. Glory to God!
Healing Promises, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, p.v
Gloria and I have never had a single healing service where God failed to heal and deliver His people. That's because we have always preached the Word and relied on the Name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to break the yoke of bondage - sin, sickness, disease and death.
Anywhere, at any time, the Spirit of God is always ready to heal. And whether you're in the last stages of cancer or just have a headache, healing is yours the moment you make a demand on it. But for God's healing to manifest, He needs faith - your faith.

Going about Kenneth Copeland's Business
In a recent development, Kenneth Copeland has postponed his Australia-Asia-Pacific Meetings for 2004. In a letter posted to Kenneth Copeland Ministries' Australian website (www.kcm.org.au, as at 21 September 2004), Kenneth Copeland said,

Dear Partners and Friends,
Gloria and I left Oral Roberts University and went into this ministry full time in June of 1967 and we've been non-stop ever since. In 37 years of ministry we have never, ever cancelled a meeting. All to the glory of God. In all those years I was 10 minutes late to one service.
Much to my deep regret I must postpone our meetings in Australia, Singapore, Korea and Hawaii.
A few days ago I injured my back badly enough that even though my healing has already started, so many hours of flying would be too much.
Let's face it. I let this situation in my back go on for too long. However, the Lord has forgiven me and I'm on my way back to full strength.
Please forgive me if I've caused you any inconvenience whatsoever. Believe me, postponing these meetings is the last thing I wanted to do.
As you forgive me, please pray and believe with me for the complete restoration of my lower back area.
We will reschedule these meetings just as soon as we can and I will come with a testimony of great victory.
Thank you so very much for believing with me.
JESUS IS LORD!

Selective Memory
Copeland's notice of postponement includes the comment, "In 37 years of ministry we have never, ever cancelled a meeting". What about Copeland's "disobedience" in regard to coming to Australia every year until the Lord told him otherwise - as he told his 1995 Australian convention audience? Either God told Copeland to, or not. Either Copeland was disobedient or he was lying. Either way, Copeland's, "never, ever cancelling" a meeting is a great big furphy (lie).
My understanding of the events leading to the first CANCELLATION of an Australian KCM Convention (after Copeland's "prophetic instruction by God") was due to several factors; the foremost being concerns over a repeat of the financial losses incurred from the 1996 Convention, and a failure by the [then] new Australian Directors (who came from America for the posting) to negotiate, with the Brisbane City Council, a conciliatory agreement concerning the use of the Boondall Convention Centre.
As for this year’s [now postponed] convention (2004), I've heard that Copeland was planning on using another ministries’ aircraft to fly to Australia (don't ask me about the Citation CX situation - I don't know), but that aircraft failed to meet required regulatory criteria. Though this is hearsay, and as yet I am unable to substantiate it, it does put an interesting twist on the reasons for this "postponement".
Though we may say,
"The Lord's will be done", Kenneth Copeland would hardly agree with us.
He'd call such a statement, "
Faithless trash!"
Personally, I think that's "too much".
