AG MATRIARCH DR. OPAL REDDIN'S, FINAL LETTER OF APPEAL |
WRITTEN ON HER DEATHBED |
As you have opportunity, please tell any and all of our A/G churches that I for one see Rick Warren and his deceptive
"Purpose Driven books and practices" to be the gradual downfall to each church becoming involved.
[Here are] some of my reasons:
1. His SHAPE, Jung-oriented spiritual gifts tests destroy the very meaning of "spiritual gifts, and hence all Pentecostal churches will become redundant." Those taking them as having any degree of value will find (too late) they were grieving the Holy Spirit. This is one of the main hindrances today to people receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
2. His "gospel" excludes repentance as a necessary step toward salvation, and it IS necessary, according to Jesus. Warren's "gospel" is "another gospel" of “works". No wonder the [Roman] Catholics and homosexuals feel at home in his pastors’ conferences!
3. Every one who signs the covenant of membership is in the process of disobeying our Lord's commands to “swear not”.
4. Every A/G minister and member should read Who's Driving the Purpose Driven Church? by James Sundquist and Deceived on Purpose by Warren Smith.
For these and other well-considered reasons, I plead with every A/G church and member to avoid Rick Warren's beliefs and practices in every way possible. We must get back to the things that brought the manifest presence of God into our midst, when gifts of the Spirit convinced unbelievers of their need to repent and get right with God. The Full Gospel will still bring sinners to salvation, and saints to full obedience as we anticipate our Lord's return in Glory.
Signed …. Rev. Opal Reddin, D. Min. Distinguished Prof. in Biblical Studies Central Bible College.

In addition James Sundquist has issued the following statement:
As one of her final acts before her death, when she was promoted to glory, Dr. Opal Reddin personally asked me to mount a campaign on her behalf to warn the Assemblies of God churches of the clear and present danger that Rick Warren's teachings and programs have brought to this denomination. Dr. Reddin was a matriarch and lighthouse on a hill in the Assemblies of God. But she is no longer here to defend herself from the attacks she has suffered for opposing this movement. I am happy to take up her mantle and defend not only her cause, but also the “orphans and widows” (Dr. Reddin was a widow) in the church which have been purpose-driven out of many Assembly of God Churches and many other denominations.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world - James 1:27.
Opal personally confronted pastors in the AOG for promoting the fraudulent teachings of Rick Warren, such as Dr. Wayde Goodall, who has since removed from the First Assembly of God Church of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For her strong stand against this trend Tom Trask, General Superintendent of the AOG at last year’s National Convention, publicly humiliated her. Rick Warren's 40 Days of Purpose and 40 Days of Community programs are now rampant within the AG, as many know. Warren's Purpose Driven Church is required reading in Assembly of God schools. Is any book refuting or opposing his teachings required reading in official AG Bible Colleges?
Many may not be affected directly. Hopefully they won't feel detached. When one saint or group of saints is affected the whole Body of Christ suffers. And don't think this can't happen to you. Just try opposing the movement if it has started in your church and see what happens to you. If it is perceived that you oppose this Transformation movement in your church and its philosophy of leadership, you will find out what will happen to you, as it has already happened to two pastors in New York State AG district and to others.
So on behalf of Dr. Opal Reddin, a true and brave defender of The Faith, and in her honor, I appeal to you to reject and mark Rick Warren as a false teacher, and, if your church has already launched one of his programs, or had intentions of doing so, to immediately reverse course.
Respectfully submitted in the fear of the LORD,
James Sundquist.
