Neither novelty nor antiquity in itself provides direction. Only the Word of God can do that. In this series of messages, the authors search the scriptures to form their conclusions. They encourage all readers to do the same. Sweep the cobwebs of antiquity from the sky. Test novelty with truth. "Prove all things, hold on to that which is good" 1 Thessalonians 5:21 "Gathering the Faithful Remnant" is a modern call for a grass roots movement to rise up and challenge the status quo, which is masquerading as a new movement of God, when in fact, it is only a revival of an old heresy. The moral decline of some of the prominent leaders of the Revival Now Movement calls for re-examination and action on the part of everyone. "Be not deceived. evil companions corrupt good manners" 1 Corinthians 15:33. From the Preface:THE idea of the book was conceived fairly close to the deadline for its publication. This put pressure on everyone. We hope that no major mistake has resulted. The concept developed out of the decision to convene a low key conference - the first organised by Christian Witness Ministries (CWM). We are convinced that what we are addressing is fundamental both to the Pentecostal movement, of which the two authors have been life-long members stretching back more than half a century in each case, and to the Christian church in general. That may seem a grandiose claim until you consider the following:Two days before I wrote this preface I was reminded of a public statement made by a former colleague of mine who has become an admirer and promoter of the so called Revival Now movement. At the height of the laughter fits and other bizarre things that spread from Toronto and Pensacola, this man stated publicly that it's more important to be FULL than FAITHFUL Such a false and gimmicky statement undermines the very foundation of godliness and of the Christian gospel itself, especially when it comes from someone who has been respected as a leader. There is a hue and cry for the NEW and the NOVEL with very few voices being raised to return to the old paths. Of course this has always been the case, even in Jeremiah's time when he penned those famous words: "Thus says the LORD, 'Stand by the ways and see and ask for the oldpaths, where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find restfor your souls'. But they said, 'We will not walk in it."' -Jeremiah 6.16 Such a situation is currently reflected in the books and tapes which are spreading in alarming numbers from those whom we at CWM view as false teachers, because of their non-biblical approach to the subjects they address. Popularity, not purity of doctrine, has become their yardstick in most cases. This will continue unless it is challenged, which is part of our motivation, though we have no great expectation to stem the tide. We simply want to remain faithful to the biblical mandate to contend for the faith. "Beloved, when I was very diligent to write to you ofour common salvation, it was necessary for me to write to you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was oncefor all delivered to the saints." -Jude 3 On the pro-active side the authors believe that the classical Pentecostal is biblically and historically correct and is the one to maintain or Too many are throwing out the pure teaching and practices of the forebears of our heritage with the bizarre nonsense that has masqueraded as Pentecostalism. We believe that it is high time to address the situation in a serious and public manner. With these things in mind the book is an extension to the conference with its theme of "Gathering the Faithful Remnant". There are eight sections published in the order in which the messages were presented at the conference. This means that the authors alternate starting with the call to the faithful remnant and developing from there with Aeron Morgan presenting Holiness and Philip Powell Supernaturalism as the two pillars of our Pentecostal heritage. Naturally there may be some overlapping. Time did not permit for much interaction between the authors, which is probably a good thing and something that should be kept in mind when reading the contents. The book is not a verbatim record of the messages preached so there will be advantage in obtaining the audio or video tapes in addition to reading the book. If you agree with the message please recommend the book and the tapes to others. Our aim is to make a difference, in the will of the Lord, to the serious situation, which pertains in the mainline Pentecostal and Charismatic expressions of the church in both hemispheres.
